Bomb plot ‘bombs’

It has emerged he was an aeronautical engineering student at Queen’s University in the city.

Yet another ‘local link to global news story’ from BBC Northern Ireland. However, this one is marginally more interesting than the the likes of ‘Garvagh man descended from Genghis Khan’, given the fact that you would expect a former aeronautical engineering student to have made a better fist of things.

As The Register observed the other day:

The mindset of a man who’s willing to set himself on fire to make a point – as one of the Glasgow terror-clowns seems to have done – but not to spend any effort at all on researching methods is a difficult one to understand.

Perhaps this ‘aeronautical engineering student’ had spent most of his time drinking the head off himself in the Bot.

Update. By the way, here’s another ‘local link‘ dating back from 2005. ‘Car bomb’ employing gas cylinders with cans of petrol found on the Monaghan Road in Armagh. Described by police as a ‘viable device’.  And here’s another one, also from Armagh, this time 2006, also involving gas cylinders and also described as a ‘viable device’.
