Opening Remarks

First of all, I think it’s going to be a great World Cup, and I don’t like people taking cheap shots at Germans on account of their history, but I couldn’t let this pass without noting it.

On RTE Jimmy Magee has just remarked, on surveying a “galaxy of footballing talent” at the opening ceremony in Germany:

“…if only you could clone them. You’d have world champions for the next thousand years.”

I do hope that’s not taking the spirit of ‘When in Rome’ a bit too far.
