Via the awesome BoRev.net, the best analysis I have seen on the U.S. current stance on Honduras.
Forget the two weirdo coup-supporting neocon creeps flanking the woman in the middle, and put your fingers in your ears in particular for the sound of Krauthammer’s saliva-chomping. What she says makes total sense. Now, I don’t know if she approves or not of the U.S. stance, but that is immaterial to the fact that she has hit the nail on the head.
I read somewhere on Tuesday that the White House had tried to contact the coup leaders in order to tell them the US would not support a coup. It read as if they were returning their call. And anticipating the wrong answer, they didn’t pick up.
The writer made no comment on the strange state of affairs where you have Washington having to go out of their way to let a bunch of disgruntled Latin American capitalist elites know they wouldn’t support an illegal coup; suggesting a default position of ‘kidnap the commie’. I have no idea where I read it, could have even been the Hearld AM.
I was going to write a humourous post titled ‘Who ya gonna call?’, with a doctored image of the Ghostbusters beneath (superimposing Che’s head on the unfortunate ghost being trapped and making a completely nonsensical social comment by putting Obama’s head on Venkman’s shoulders instead of Winston’s), but that’ll never happen now. It’s probably for the best.
You do get the impression that the problem the US has with this coup is that proper process does not appear to have been followed. I look forward to your Ghostbusters post.
