I notice, via Slugger O’Toole, that the Danish Culture Minister has nearly apologised for the Viking invasion of Ireland 1,000 years ago or so.
Well, as Eoghan Harris opines, the first step is to act with good authority within your own tribe. So, as a descendant of Vikings myself, this is an ideal opportunity to apologise to that part of myself which is descendant of the indigenous crowd that got raped and pillaged.
I am very sorry, and I hope I can come to terms with the deep suffering and trauma that my people inflicted upon my people. However, now that I have apologised, I hope that I will accept the apology in the spirit in which it was made, and that I will let that be the end of it.
